Men’s Basketball

Brandeis: Team splits two home games After blowing a 55-45 lead against University Athletic Association foe Emory University Sunday afternoon, the men’s basketball team found itself tied with the Eagles at 60-60 with 3 minutes, 40 seconds left in the game. But in crunch time it was Emory who came up with the key baskets to win the game.

Flying high: Eagles upset No. 15 Brandeis Through 16 games, the men’s basketball team is off to its second-best start in program history as the Eagles improved to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in the UAA with a 69-57 victory on Friday at New York University and a 77-64 upset of No. 15-ranked Brandeis University on Sunday.

Wash U: After long string of close calls, a rout of CMU Coming off of four straight games decided by five or fewer points, the Washington University men’s basketball team finally got some room to breathe. The Bears handed Carnegie Mellon University their 12th loss of the season with an 81-60 rout on Sunday in Pittsburgh.

Women’s Basketball

Brandeis: Judges cannot close out Emory Just over 2 1/2 minutes into the second half, women’s basketball guard Morgan Kendrew ’12 stole the ball from Emory University’s Sally Peterson and laid it in to give the Judges a 13-point lead in Sunday afternoon’s University Athletic Association competition at Brandeis.

Brandeis: Athlete of the Week: Morgan Kendrew ’12 Women’s basketball guard Morgan Kendrew ’12 continued her impressive season with a career-high 19 points and eight rebounds in the Judges’ 74-63 loss to Emory University on Sunday.

Emory: Comeback win salvages trip After a disappointing 59-55 loss to New York University on Friday night, the women’s basketball team pulled out a 73-65 comeback win against Brandeis University Sunday. Trailing by 13 points in the second half, the Eagles went on a 17-point scoring streak to pull out the victory.

Swimming

Brandeis: Men’s squad dominates in the pool The men’s swimming and diving squad continued to impress with two wins against Trinity College and Clark University this past week, while the women’s team fell short in both meets. With the two wins, the men improved to 6-1 while the women fell to 2-5.

Emory: Seniors carry team to victory Both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams triumphed over Division II competitors Delta State University and Wingate University at home on Saturday.

Wash U: Bears pummel Panthers Washington University swimmers took to the starting blocks and left the Principia College Panthers in their wake as the men’s team routed the competition 134-76 and the women picked up a 116-73 win.

Track & Field

Brandeis: Both squads compete at Greater Boston Track Club Grayce Selig ’11 qualified for New England Division III Championships in the 1-mile Championship, and several runners finished in top spots as the Brandeis men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams wrapped up a successful meet at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational at Harvard Sunday.

Emory holds own against top teams The track and field team competed at the Niswonger Invitational at East Tennessee State on Jan. 22 and 23, and for the second week in a row took on a field that included Division I schools.

Wash U: Early-season work continues at Snowbird Open Competing for the second time of the indoor season, the men’s and women’s track and field teams each took second place at the Illinois College Snowbird Open.
