In addition to today’s live audio broadcast of the Aurora game, we’re maintaining a live blog with lineups, formations, goal descriptions, and occasional zippy commentary. (Should you miss any of the game, you can check the live blog transcript to catch up.)

This year, our live blogging software also includes a scoreboard widget, which we’ll update in real time so that you can see the current score and minute at any point. And on top of all that, you can post comments, questions, and shout-outs to the liveblog; some of these we’ll share on air, and all of them will be seen by other followers of the live blog, so come in and say to hi to your fellow Maroons (or Spartans; we’re excited to hear from Aurora fans too!).

To access the live blog, follow this link. The live blog should open in a separate tab or browser window, so you may need to temporarily allow pop-ups.

The audio broadcast will begin at 10:15 a.m., CST. We’ll start live blogging ten to fifteen minutes before kick off.

All of us at GoMaroons! Live are twitching with excitement over the day’s games (the Chicago men play their first round game against Wartburg at 5 p.m., and we’re broadcasting that one too). At a time like this, it’s hard to think of a fitting end to a blog post, so I’ll defer to some wisdom riceeved from American footballer Terrell Owens: Getcha popcorn ready.

Be sure to pick up a copy of tomorrow’s—well, now today’s—Maroon to see our recap of all the year’s athletics. We look back at the biggest stories, have some seniors share their favorite memories from their time as Maroons, and rerun the best of In Quotes.

And, of course, announce the winners of our annual All-Maroons poll. You can go ahead and read those here, but definitely grab a hard copy of the paper as well, because it’s got some pretty sweet illustrations that you’ll probably enjoy (think ‘bobbleheads’). Hopefully we’ll have some PDFs of those pages up eventually, so those of you who aren’t on campus can take a look at the design and the pictures as well.

Probably sometime over the next couple weeks, when our finals schedules permit, Jake and I will post some reflections on this year’s sports. But at as a preliminary, I just want to say that it has been a ton of fun to follow along. I know Jake and I and the other Maroon Sports folks have really enjoyed it, and we’re already looking forward to 2009–2010.

Women’s tennis is headed for the final four. Chicago swept doubles, then Kung won in straight sets and Hu in three to lock up a 5–0 victory over sixth-seeded Carnegie. Look for a full recap later tonight on the Maroon’s website.

Amherst may have already won their match, too; if they haven’t, they are ahead and probably will win any moment now, so the Maroons have a date with the country’s top team tomorrow, at 1 p.m CST.

Also, I think comparing results from different days is a terrible way to judge teams’ relative strengths, but: This is a 5–0 win over a Carnegie squad that pressed Emory to 5-4 at the UAA Championships, and Carnegie’s line up was almost the same for both matches. That has to be some indication of how well the Maroons are playing these days. And in any event, a 5–0 win over the six seed is no mean feat.

(It’s worth mentioning too that a few Maroons were in good shape in the DNF matches.)

Stay tuned for more, and check for more pictures from the match today.
