Emory: Eagles take down Tartans in championship Since the UAA began holding its tournament in 1988, there has been only one champion in women’s tennis — Emory University. This year proved no different as the Eagles took home the trophy for the 22nd year in a row, defeating top-seeded Carnegie Mellon in the championship match.

Emory: Seniors lead team in final title run As the Eagles look toward the NCAA Regionals on May 8, three players begin what will be their final collegiate tennis tournament. Seniors Michael Goodwin, Mark Boren and Michael Kaufman will try to lead the team to their fourth consecutive NCAA National Championship Match appearance, and their second National Title in the past four years. The seniors have been together on the team since they were freshmen on the 2006 team that won the championship.

Carnegie: Women’s tennis advances to UAA finals, falls to rival Emory The women’s tennis team competed at the University Athletic Association (UAA) championships hosted by Brandeis University this past weekend. The Tartans, ranked third in Division III, blew out Case Western Reserve University 9–0 in the quarterfinals and Washington University in St. Louis 8–1 in the semifinals. However, the Tartans couldn’t keep their dominance going on the final day, as fourth-ranked Emory University pulled off the upset 5–4 to win their 22nd consecutive UAA title.

Track

NYU: Track team down, but not out in UAA Championship The NYU track and field team had far fewer athletes than any other team at the University Athletic Association Championships this weekend. Still, the team had a respectable outing, racking up 61 points — good enough to place fifth out of seven teams on Sunday at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Emory: Women 2nd, Men 3rd at UAAs After competing in harsh headwinds and sweltering heat, the women’s track and field team returned home this weekend from the UAAs with a second-place finish, while the men placed third at the meet. Washington University in St. Louis bested all the teams, acquiring both the men’s and women’s UAA titles.

Carnegie: Track, field host UAA championships; men take second, women take sixth The Carnegie Mellon men’s and women’s track and field teams fought through the stifling heat during the University Athletic Association (UAA) championships held at Gesling Stadium this past weekend. The two-day event ended with Washington University in St. Louis coming away on top in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

Wash U: Track & Field: Men and women win UAA titles Washington University’s men’s and women’s track teams both won UAA conference titles Sunday. The women accrued 231.5 points, topping second-place Emory University by 62 points while the men totaled 221 to Carnegie Mellon University’s 152. This was the women’s 10th title in a row and the men’s first since 2006.

Rochester: UR swings back, snags win at home There’s no stronger feeling of satisfaction and thrill in sports than a good comeback. This past weekend, the women’s tennis team experienced this emotion.

Emory: After sweep of captains, Eagles seek to avenge early season loss The tennis team breezed through its 13th straight victory on Sunday, making quick work of Christopher Newport University (Va.). The contest was the Eagles’ final home match of the year, and the team improved its record at the Woodruff P.E. Center to 8-1 on the year. The No. 1-ranked Eagles swept every match on their way to a 9-0 victory, improving their overall record to 15-1.

Carnegie: Men’s tennis relinquishes GLCA title After a long weekend of close sets and intense rallies, the Carnegie Mellon men’s tennis team fell short of defending its title at the Great Lakes Colleges Association tournament held at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind. The Tartans fought their way to the final day but were stopped from making the finals by 18th-ranked DePauw University, who squeezed out a 5–4 win. The Tartans did not let that loss affect their morale and went on to defeat 28th-ranked Kalamazoo University 5–2 in the playoff match later that day. Carnegie Mellon is currently 14th in the nation and has a season record of 16–6.

Wash U: Tennis: Men sweep weekend Washington University’s second-ranked men’s tennis team walked away from the weekend with two solid 8-1 wins over No. 12 University of Texas-Tyler and No. 20 University of Chicago. The Bears will play two local matches this week before heading to the UAA Tournament over the weekend for a much-anticipated showdown against rival Emory University.

Track

Emory: Strong showing in two meets On Saturday, the track and field team split up to attend two meets, the Furman Invitational at Furman University in Greenville, S.C., and the Ole Miss Invitational at the University of Mississippi. Emory students finished well at both meets in a variety of events while also allowing other athletes to rest in preparation for the upcoming UAA Championships.

Carnegie: Track and field competes at Bison Classic, Bennie Benson invitational Last weekend, the men’s and women’s track and field team participated in two separate track meets. The top athletes competed in the Bison Outdoor Classic Meet hosted by Bucknell University on Friday and Saturday. The rest of the team traveled to Robert Morris University’s Bennie Benson Memorial Invitational. While the Bison Outdoor Classic Meet represented the top-tier competition from 74 teams, the Bennie Benson Meet consisted of eight to nine teams. There were several outstanding performances from both meets, highlighting a very successful weekend.
